Wine Cork Keychains

I make a lot of cut off wine bottle soy candles and in the spirit of being green I also use the tops for candlesticks and screw off tops for magnets.  The corks I do a number of things with, but I think this just might be my favorite use.

Take one cork, stack descending size washers of different colored metals to the top and bottom, and screw in an eye screw.  They also look great if you simply use a screw on the bottom instead of dangling the bead.  Then attach a keychain and you're done.  If you want a bit of extra strength glue the washers together.

Within just a few minutes you have some great stocking stuffers!

  1. These are really really cool. What a great gift for sure and what if it were a special momento type cork to commemorate some special occasion? I wish I had saved some of those corks. :0 Guess we will have to start drinking some more. Hehe. Thanks for linking this up to Motivated Monday at BeColorful.

  7. Actually none. The eye screws hold on the washers well. If I wanted extra security I would use E6000. You can get that at any craft store.

I have been looking online for the washers you speak of. Where can I buy them? I am having a hard time locating them because I am not sure exactly what I am looking for. Thank you for your help! And thank you for your blog! I am following here and on Pinterest!

  14. What a great idea! Would be such a great gift to give someone, especially if the cork was from a shared bottle and meant something!

  15. Nicole, you should be able to find the washers in any hardware store. It may be a good idea to bring a cork with you and that will help you find the sizes that look the best. Just ask a clerk to help you find thin washers.

  16. I started making these tonight and wow, so cute and so easy to do! I cannot wait to see people's reaction when they get them as added on Christmas gifts:)

All the supplies were very easy to find. The only thing was the beads we got needed something to attach them to the eyering. We used headpins (found at Michael's) and then just wrapped the extra length around itself. Worked really well.

The hard part was choosing the beads. I think we went overboard and bought everything we liked, lol.
